42 Years of Care and Ensuring No One Fights Alone!

Team Aydin Raises $8,000 in 9 Pin Bowling Party

Four years ago my granddaughter Aydin was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis or NF. To be perfectly honest, I had no idea what NF was. All I knew was that I was scared, angry and felt helpless. I wanted to “fix” what was wrong and had no idea what we were facing.  Our family was about to embark on a journey that would be life changing!

We stumbled around in those first few months not knowing where to turn or what to do. We were soon put in touch with the NF Midwest Foundation and learned that there were others in the area who also suffered from this genetic disorder. We have found others who have been on this journey longer and some who are just beginning. NF Midwest has proven to be a great resource and support for us as we make our way through this maze.  They provided valuable information that we were able to share with our own families and friends. They were instrumental in helping to educate the teachers at Colfax Elementary School where Aydin would be attending. When we held our bowling event last Saturday the local chapter was in attendance to share information and lend their support. It was very much appreciated and the community found it educational and listened to the stories of their individual journeys.

Our family has always been positive and motivating. We enjoy being able to give back to others and we took these talents and turned them into good use. After collecting more than $5000.00 for last year’s NF walk, we decided that we wanted to start our fundraising earlier for the 2016 walk.  The idea of a 9 Pin Tap bowling tournament was the brain storm of friends and family and it quickly grew. In just three short weeks many amazing and dedicated angels put together the awesome fund raiser last Saturday and we raised over $8000!

The afternoon kicked off with bowling for the children. Aydin took the microphone and thanked everyone for coming to help raise money for NF. She is a delightful little girl who will never be defined by her disease. She is outgoing and I believe will be a wonderful spokesperson in the future.

Other events included paddle raffles, 50/50 raffles, a silent auction and basket raffles. The evening ended with the adult 9 Pin Tap Bowling Tournament and many closed out the evening dancing to the great music of a generous DJ.

The fund raiser was a huge success and we owe a debt of gratitude to all those who came out and supported the event. We have helped to raise awareness of this disease and hopefully these monies will someday help to find a cure! I know that our family will not stop until this becomes a reality. We pray for those doing the research and will keep the faith!
