Camp New Friends 2020
If you have a child with neurofibromatosis consider sending them to Camp New Friends. Now is the time to sign up or inquire more.
Camp is NOT too costly. For the last 15 years, NF Midwest has financially supported kids from the Midwest to attend Camp New Friends by helping with travel and camp fees. NF Midwest reimburses Camp New Friends/Brainy Camp for the cost of any campers from our region that have been approved for financial assistance by Brainy Camps.
Camp is NOT too far. The staff at Camp New friends help kids travel safely. If they fly out of Chicago, NF Midwest has a large group that travels together with young adults as chaperones. Camp New Friends has chaperones that will meet your child at the airport and help them to the shuttle to camp.
Your child couldn’t be in better hands! At least two child neurologists and experts in NF head the medical team for the week of camp. Plus nurses, social workers, physical therapist and psychologists, are on-site 24 hours a day. Counselors are trained in dealing with the issues associated with NF. Many counselors and volunteers live with the condition themselves and share their experiences with the campers.
Having one of the neurofibromatoses (NF1, NF2, Schwannomatosis) is a lifelong challenge. Building a foundation of strength and knowledge; and developing a circle of friends that understand and will always be there, can make a lifelong difference.
Camp New Friends, run by Brainy Camps, is an opportunity for children (ages 7 to 17) to build this foundation. Often people with NF go through their lives knowing few, if any, other people with NF. At Camp New Friends, kids are able to share and learn from others with NF, all while having a ton of fun. It’s very common for kids to come home and share how nice it was to simply swim with others who have café aulait spots just like them.
In 2020, Camp New Friends will be held July 19th through July 25th in St. George, Virginia. To register for camp and to apply for financial aid for camp tuition and/or travel, contact Brainy Camps directly at www.brainycamps.com or email for more information.
If you have any general questions about camp or travel, call the NF Midwest office at 630-945-3562. NF Midwest staff has sent their own kids to Camp New Friends, so feel free to contact us!
