Our annual symposium was held in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on October 17, 2009. The new location in the NIU extension building was a
great success. We were able to provide a more casual atmosphere with lots of little treats and ample opportunity to network at a lower
cost. We had over 160 attendees, plus many children and teenagers for the children and teen groups.
Speakers included Dr. James Tonsgard (University of Chicago), Dr. Robert Listernick (Children's Memorial), Dr. Fawn Leigh
(Massachusetts General Hospital), Dr. Cynthia Hingten (University of Indiana), Dr. Bonnie Klein-Tasman (University of Wisconsin -
Milwaukee), Dr. Marco Giovannini (House Ear Institute, California) and Dr. Robert Lieberson (Stanford). We also had personal
perspectives from Mike Forbes, an NF Type 1 affected adult, and Marie Drew, who is affected with NF Type 2.
