Grants from Neurofibromatosis Midwest are often given to Midwest area clinics that specialize in neurofibromatosis care for such things as extra patient services; to track patient information for research over their lifetime of care; and/or to support clinical trials. We are proud to have been an impetus behind the creation of University of Chicago NF Clinic and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago NF Clinic (formerly Children’s Memorial NF Clinic). NF Midwest has funded clinical care efforts at the Washington University NF Center in St. Louis and the University of Chicago and has plans to expand these efforts to NF clinics in our region.
We seek to get every person with neurofibromatosis to the best possible care and to bring care closer to the patient. However, neurofibromatosis is a very complicated disorder that requires a lead NF physician and many associated specialists with lots of experience in neurofibromatosis. Due to the wide range of complications, even an experienced NF doctor may see some complications infrequently. NF Midwest strongly encourages all people with NF to see a doctor that specializes in NF. If you are looking for a physician to oversee your NF care and you don’t see one here that will work for you, please give us a call as there are other options.
